France fights against the Nazis but like all countries during the war, she pays a great price. In the village of Oradour the Nazis kill 1100 of the 1200 population. Caen, the capital of Normandy, the British struck a defensive wall of Germans. After a brutal battle, Caen was eventually taken from the Germans. It was the first decent sized city that the American's took but there was no celebration. Troops moved south with more fighting to come. Shots of German soldiers surrendering to the Americans. Tanks move through a broken city and the French civilians cheer. Things were going good till the Americans hit Mortain. Heavy battling ensued and the RAF came in waves to relieve the soldiers on the ground. The battle continued for 3 days and the British and Americans were able to stop them cold. American tanks went on East towards Paris. The Germans started to leave the city of Paris and the Americans continued their take over of France and then moved to Brussels. At Arnhem and Antwerp the battle ragged on. By this point soldiers knew that they were headed into the winter months yet once again.
